The World's Best New Hotels According to Condé Nast Traveler's Editors
May 1, 2018 . . . Today, Condé Nast Traveler announced the winners of the 2018 Hot List with Sanders recognized as one of the 102 hottest hotel openings of the last year. The Condé Nast Traveler Hot List recognizes the best properties around the world that have opened their doors in the past year and uncovers the top trends inspiring modern travelers. Sanders is proud to be included and recognized in such a highly coveted list of the world's best new hotels.
"We are so excited to achieve this award," says Alexander Kølpin, owner of Sanders. "With all of the hotel openings around the world, to be included in this list is such an honor. When developing the hotel, we had ambitions of sharing something special and personal with our guests. When you are recognized by leaders in the industry, it's a major motivation for our team."
“We believe that shining a light on the thoughtful hotels, lodges, and even private islands that are getting it right—from a conservation, community, culinary, or historic standpoint—is good for everyone,” said Pilar Guzmán, editor-in-chief of Condé Nast Traveler. "By celebrating the very best, we hope to help set a standard for those who follow so that when we return decades down the road, we will still recognize and be transformed by these places.”
A renowned Danish ballet dancer, Alexander Kølpin, has created Copenhagen’s first luxury boutique hotel - Sanders. The design is inspired by his personal experience and travels. He brings a refined aesthetic sensibility and ideology to the property which is deeply rooted in his creative history. Sanders is combination of two townhouses that have been fused into one exceptional property that houses 54 guest rooms, Sanders Kitchen, Living Room, bar TATA, Courtyard and a Conservatory on the rooftop.
The guest rooms are singular in their style and design. A variety of accommodations have been created to suit the needs of every guest. Single Coupé rooms are inspired from a bygone era of luxury train cabins where guests will find comfort and luxury within the intimate space. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Sanders Apartments offer the utmost in privacy and are generously spacious with separate lounge seating and open fireplaces.
An all-day dining spot where breakfast is served for hotel guests. Transforming for lunch, it becomes an unpretentious hangout for guests and locals alike. In the evenings, you’ll find an uncomplicated menu based on fresh produce gathered from the morning markets in the city and specialty food items from further afield. The carefully curated wine selection has been chosen from favorite winemakers and vineyards to satisfy a variety of palates.
The Courtyard is thoughtfully decorated with greenery and hand-picked furniture, creating an inviting oasis in the heart of Sanders. This inner sanctuary is covered and during the colder months an open wood burning fireplace is the perfect place to warm your spirits. Open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
TATA, the hotel’s bar is a spirited and at times a decadent place where you can tuck behind a curtain for a tête-à-tête or an intimate rendezvous. Nestled in the historic center on a quiet neighborhood street, directly behind the Royal Danish Theatre, the bar was a former hotspot for the city’s cultural cognoscenti in the 1970-80’s.
Open from breakfast until sunset, the Conservatory is a rare space for both residences and the public atop the hotel overlooking Copenhagen’s rooftops. Here, guests will find an oasis amid colonial inspired furniture and a garden of exotic plants.
Sanders is situated in the historic center of Copenhagen, just behind the Nyhavn Canal, guests are a stroll away from the royal residences of Amalienborg Palace, the old stage of the Royal Theatre, Christiansborg Palace and the Royal Danish Opera. Lining the neighborhood’s cobbled lanes, guests will find countless quality restaurants, contemporary art galleries, museums and world class shopping.
