Unlock the Essence of Almanac Barcelona
Perfumista Jimmy Boyd Creates a Signature Scent and Retail Line of Amenities
Master Perfumista, Jimmy Boyd, was chosen to capture the essence of a private label scent for Almanac Barcelona. Scents conjure memories that are indelible. How does one capture that in a bottle?
Inspired by the city and its inhabitants, of which Boyd is a native, he first looked to citrus, to capture the energy of the Mediterranean. Inspired by nature, Galbanum is a healing botanical that was first mentioned as early as the Book of Exodus and used by the ancients in incense. Further inspiration was derived from the sea and a light floral note of jasmine is added to create this special essence. Combined they represent a unique dynamic of Barcelona’s sophisticated culture creating something that is at once memorable and desirable.
“I have been inspired to create fragrances from people’s character and personalities. When creating a scent for Almanac, I took the collective personality of the citizens to create something truly unique. Barcelona is also my city, and I share the same passion that brings visitors from around the globe to see and experience it,” says Boyd.
This tailor-made fragrance will be incorporated into Almanac Barcelona in a variety of ways and will make an impression upon entry. A complete line of bath amenities including liquid soap, soothing body lotion, shampoo and hair conditioner will all be provided in guest rooms in a 250ml size, while bars of soap will be available in the suites. A beautifully packaged line of candles, aroma sticks and room spray will be available for retail purchase.
James Joseph Boyd was born in Barcelona of Scottish father and Catalan mother. He lives by the Mediterranean Sea, whose light and scent are the inspiration for his creations. He studied perfumery in Grasse (considered the world’s capital of perfume) next to his master Marcel Carles who taught him the secrets of the trade. He created his first successful line of alternative perfume “From the Garden”. Under the request of the City Council of Barcelona, e perfumed an international poetry festival at the Palau de la Música. For five years he consulted more than 3,500 women to carry out a research about the correlation between their scent preferences and their personalities.
