PDT NY at the Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

If you know Crif Dogs and PDT NY, you might find it hard to imagine how you would mash those two concepts into the luxurious Mandarin Oriental Barcelona. Talking to Jeff Bell, General Manager at PDT this week, he laid out the plan. PDT NY will be recreated into the legendary speakeasy at the Mandarin Oriental Banker’s Bar while the team introduces Barcelona denizens into New York City’s cocktail culture from 1 to 30 September.

What's PDT's mission? Shake up the cocktail culture of Barcelona, stir up some classics and create a few new cocktails for the pop-up at Mandarin Oriental. The award-winning team will include Jim Meehan, founder of PDT, and author of the PDT Cocktail Book, Jeff Bell, General Manager of PDT and veteran bartender Adam Schmidt.

But what About the Haute Dogs?

If you ever had a Crif Dog, you know the joint takes their franks seriously, but there’s a bun and dog throw down happening in Barcelona with some of the world’s finest chefs. Seriously? I am seeing stars because between the five chefs, you have enough Michelin Stars to create a galaxy! First Carme Ruscalleda has 7 of her own, more than any other female chef in the world. Joan Roca from El Celler de Can Roca is placed second in the World’s Best Restaurants. Ángel León, Gastón Acurio and Albert Adrià – well, I don’t think I need to list their credentials as they rule the food scene in the city.

PDT NY will be serving up six different cocktails – three of which are: Nichol Buck made with Tanqueray 10, a Benton’s Old-Fashioned, and a One, Two Punch, which I hear could be a knock out. Everyone knows that Spain loves their Jamon – so there could be no better choice of cocktail for this pop-up than Benton’s because it sits at the crossroads of haute barnyard and barroom as PDT combines one of the finest pork products with Bourbon and maple syrup.

In this case, I think you can “bank” on it being a success and stay tuned for more because I’ll give you the flip side of this story in September. See you in Barcelona and save a seat for me!
