AC Hotel Chicago Downtown

AC Hotel Chicago Downtown

A New Lifestyle Hotel

Planning a weekend trip to Chicago? The AC Hotel Chicago Downtown seemed to be the perfect fit, located just steps from the city’s “Magnificent Mile” where you will find great shopping, dining, live music and amazing architecture. Having just opened this past summer, the AC Hotel has a chic urban contemporary design: spacious rooms with sleek furnishings and hardwood floors – it was exactly what I was looking for. Many rooms, including mine, have a balcony overlooking the city giving me the perfect opportunity for people watching.

The AC Lounge is a great place to jumpstart your evening. The bar area offers hand-crafted cocktails, a variety of local and domestic beers and a wide assortment of wines.  I chose the locally brewed Anti-Hero IPA – partly because of the fun label, but mainly because it comes from the largest brewery in Illinois. It was a perfect match to wash down the Spanish-inspired tapas served at the bar. Asking for some suggestions of where to head to next, the “barcierges” readily shared their local favorites to explore.

During our stay, we experienced two great spots for breakfast:   the AC Kitchen, served a delicious European inspired buffet breakfast – including a wide selection of meats and cheeses, flaky croissants, warm muffins and fruits - more than enough to get your engine started before heading out for the day.  Their signature iced coffee - really rich and flavorful - topped it all off! On Day 2, we headed towards to the beautiful Lincoln Park neighborhood and had breakfast at the Summer House Santa Monica.  Chef Mahin offers a California inspired menu that ranged from pancakes to tostados.  I chose the Hass avocado toast with perfectly poached eggs and scallion mascarpone.  Don’t pass up the housebaked country bread or English muffins!

Wanting to see as much as we could, after breakfast we stopped at a Divvy Bike sharing station, and rode along the shore of Lake Michigan.  A baseball and history fan, we couldn’t resist a ride past Wrigley Field; built in 1914, it’s the second oldest baseball park in the counry. Afterward, we headed back to hotel to see “Cloud Gate” also known as the “Bean” – a sculpture by world famous Anish Kapoor. If you have limited time, for $9.95 you can get unlimited 30-minute rides in a 24-hour period making this an efficient inexpensive way to see and experience the city.
